ORIGIN

In 1992, Gaines invited fellow artists to join him on a quest to explore ways in which they could work together creatively, and inspired by his weekly artists’ jam sessions, he began to build his dream. At the time, hip hop dancers Lakai Worrell and Kevin Joseph were taking Gaines’ dance classes. Both caught on to ”The Vision” and subsequently became integral participants in shaping Creative Outlet into what has become.

In its fifteenth year of operation, with notable successes to its credit, Creative Outlet (CO) stands as a peer among other landmark arts institutions that comprise the BAM cultural district.

The main staples of CO’s ongoing efforts are its robust program offerings:

 Staying true to his purpose as an artist, Gaines continues to nurture the collaborative creative process among other artists who share the CO vision. This invitation is extended to professional performers, writers, visual artists, as well as those who work in arts-related fields, such as production (lighting, sound, set design, costuming), and in arts education, arts administration and arts leadership.
