Karisma Jay
Karisma Jay embodies the spirit of a multi-hyphenate artist. As a dancer, actress, singer, director, playwright, choreographer, coach, teacher, entrepreneur, and host, she has been involved in performing, curating, and creating for three decades. Her work has been showcased on platforms like Netflix, Lifetime, BET, MTV, NBC, and VH1. In 2013, Karisma joined STOMP, and in 2016, Family Circle magazine recognized her as a “Local Hero,” while Lifetime TV named her a Female Entrepreneur to Watch. In 2017, she received the “Power Women in Business” award for her role as the Artistic Director and Founder of AbunDance Academy in Brooklyn. Each year, she writes, directs, produces, and stars in musicals presented by AbunDance. A recent Summa Cum Laude graduate with an MFA in Dance from Hunter College, she also teaches Dance and Culture as a guest instructor at Hunter. Karisma has taught as a guest artist at The Juilliard School, LaGuardia High School, Hunter College, Ballet Tech, Broadway Dance Center, and other institutions. She was the choreographic apprentice for David Byrne’s American Utopia and the choreographer for COMMON's music video, "When We Move." Karisma has received the 2021 Dance Teacher Award from Dance Teacher magazine and the 2023 Women of Distinction Award.
