Raquelle Chavis
Raquelle Chavis, from Queens Village, New York, began her studies at The Long Island School of Music, The Eglevsky Ballet School, The Alvin Ailey American Dance Center’s Children’s Program, and The School of American Ballet. She graduated from LaGuardia High School of Music & Performing Arts, where she received the B’nai Brith Award for Excellence in Dance.
Raquelle performed with The Alvin Ailey Repertory Ensemble / Ailey II and was a principal dancer with The Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater from 1987 to 1994. She has worked with renowned choreographers including Alvin Ailey, Talley Beatty, and Judith Jamison. Raquelle was featured in the Emmy Award-winning documentary "Two by Dove" and has appeared in four Radio City Music Hall productions and Broadway shows.
She directed and choreographed the musical "Marion Anderson: The Lady from Philadelphia" and has performed as a singer/songwriter in European music festivals and with The Andy Lutter Trio. In 2009, she received the ASTRAL Award from the NFAA Alumni Association.
Raquelle has taught and choreographed for various universities, public schools, and dance companies in the U.S. and Europe. From 2017 to 2019, she founded and headed the Dance Unit at Fit Republik and Studio Republik in Dubai. She continues to perform, direct, and choreograph globally with her multidisciplinary performing arts company, Geechie Anne Productions.
