Careitha Davis

Careitha Davis is a choreoagrapher and educator from Brooklyn, NY, with ancestral roots from Trinidad and Tobago. A multifaceted artist, she reflects her deep connection to dance traditions and rituals through her teaching philosophies and work. As an artist, dance educator, and choreographer, Careitha utilizes dance to challenge and decolonize the Eurocentric approach to the art form.

She founded BodyRaMovement LLC, a dance method designed to uplift communities and foster artistry through cultural traditions from the West Indies and East and West Africa. Following her performance work with choreographer Dianne McIntyre, Careitha graduated from SUNY Purchase and New York University. She has pursued extensive education in leadership, curriculum development, and community building.

Careitha has served as a teaching artist for Alvin Ailey Dance Theatre, Ballet Hispánico, and Harlem Stage, and has led international classes in Switzerland, Uganda, Trinidad, and St. Maarten. She currently heads the Department of Dance at Wadleigh Secondary School of the Performing Arts and is an adjunct professor in the NYU Steinhardt Dance Education MA Program, where she also serves as an advisory committee member for the African Diaspora track.

She is a graduate of SUNY Purchase College, Brooklyn Technical College, and Purchase University, and holds a Master’s degree from New York University.
