Beyond the courtroom, Ms. Lawrence is an award-winning modern dancer, recognized nationally by the National Foundation for Advancement in the Arts: YoungArts. She attributes her discipline, consistency, and grit to early artistic training at Creative Outlet Dance Theatre of the Arts, under the direct mentorship of Jamel Gaines. Under Mr. Gaines’s guidance, Ms. Lawrence followed a carefully crafted educational path through Ronald Edmond Learning Center, JHS 113, and LaGuardia High School for Music, Art, and the Performing Arts, while also training in prestigious ballet programs such as American Ballet Theatre and Dance Theatre of Harlem.

As a result of Mr. Gaines’s mentorship and dedication, Ms. Lawrence was accepted to thirteen colleges and chose to attend Hampton University, where she earned a Bachelor of Science in Political Science—laying the foundation for a life dedicated to advocacy, education, and justice.

Ms. Lawrence credits every milestone to God’s favor and protection, to her grandmother for nurturing creativity and enrolling her in Creative Outlet at just eight years old, and to her mother for trusting Jamel Gaines and supporting every artistic pursuit. Most of all, she honors Jamel Gaines, who became a father figure during a time of adversity—investing in her future, believing in her talent, and opening doors to spaces shared with extraordinary artists from Broadway to Alvin Ailey.
